Fear and Loathing of Ray Lankford

In another September game, tied 1-1 with the Cardinals in the Sixth, Tracy had Jeff Weaver pitch to Jim Edmonds with second and third and two outs. Behind MVP candidate Edmonds, the always dangerous .247 hitting, 37 year old, Ray Lankford. Edmonds hits his predictable three run home run, and the Dodgers are in a hole.

Of course, this is another one of those holes they climbed out of, as Cardinal shortstop Edgar Renteria honked an easy double play ball in the eighth, opening the door for two runs to win the game. But must we forever and always, to paraphrase Tennessee Williams, rely on the "kindness of strangers?"
