The Great September Stewart Debacle

Pitching Scott Stewart in the seventh inning of a September game with the Padres up 6-4 with Giles, Nevin and Klesko the first three batters. Two singles and a home run later, 9-4 Padres. Final score: 9-7. Here's an idea. If you absolutely must pitch Scotty, how about saving him for the eighth, and Ramon Hernandez and Terrance Long? More about the "present value" of pitchers (and how Jim Tracy has no concept of this) in a later post. In the meantime, discuss.
