More Love for TJ

If you read today's Simers column, you should find one part of it familiar: he basically lifts the piece about Ross' Dominican League troubles from a post by Jon a few days ago. He even falsely gives credit to Raul Tavares' Dominican Players blog for Ross' Dominican stats--in fact Jon culled them from USA Today. He expressly says he got the info from fan e-mail, but still, I expect more from "journalists"--even if they're merely third-rate hacks posing as "columnists." Do your research and cite your sources accurately, TJ. I know it'd be a big inconvenience to have to spend more than 15 minutes a day writing a lousy 1,000-word column, but there exist certain standards that journalists respect and readers expect.

  • But it's a stat Jerry! 4 for 29 is a real live stat.

  • But seriously, it's true that Simers is too lazy to do anything like independent source checking or verification. ("T.J., what's your source for that information on Ross? Oh yeah, e-mail from a chiropractor in Encino." Does that sort of verification work if Ross is hitting .600?) On the other hand, Simers is also being led around by the nose BY THE BLOGOSPHERE. Simers has produced a very enlightening paragraph, not in its content, but in its subtext.

  • I was unhappy that Simers called Raul's blog "a Dominican players' blog." I think he should have given the correct name of the blog and mentioned Raul's name, instead of leaving the impression that it was a blog written by some Dominican players, which is what the s-apostrophe implies.

  • I suspect that Simers has no idea what a possessive apostrophe implies. Please feel free to give those guys hell next month, Jon. We're counting on you.
