More Analysis You Won't Find in the L.A. Times

Good piece here analyzing five teams with significant off-season changes. The Dodgers need Izturis, Werth, and Bradley to step up, but we knew that already. Also not a surprise: the Diamondbacks are going to be a very big, very expensive, Chapter 11-welcoming flop.

  • (Interior-Day-LA Times Editor's office. Jacob Luft has just turned his article and an editor is reviewing it)

Editor (looking over article): Hmmm....hmmm. Lots of numbers... what's this VORP thingee?

Luft: It's a statistical tool used to calculate the value of a player based on his statistics from previous seasons. The best way to evaluate players is by their previous performance so I thought, what the hey, let's take a look a look at the most active teams in a very busy off-season and see if they actually improved themselves.I this kind of analysis would be interesting for our readers.

Editor: Ya know what would make this work? A shot at the McCourts!

(Luft looks puzzled. Fade to black.)
